Automatic Writing – Getting Unhelpful Thoughts Out of Your Head.

Really good idea, especially for those of us with mental health disorders, and just for clearing out the bullshit that creates writer’s block. 10/10 would recommend doing the thing.

I was introduced to Automatic Writing at university, by my undergraduate Creative Writing tutor Beccy Stirrup.

Beccy was probably the best tutor I ever had at university, not just because she is such an incredibly talented cartoonist and storyteller, but the genuine passion that she showed for her subject absolutely shone through in every single lesson. She would glow with energy and excitement as she introduced us to extremely valuable writing techniques and methods for harnessing the creativity inside us.

Beccy seriously believed that everyone has creativity inside them somewhere – we just have to find it and harness it in the best way possible. She is absolutely right.

Different strokes for different folk though, and there are so many ways of expressing creativity – writing, drawing, painting, knitting and crochet, making music, dancing to music…the list goes on.
You only have to look at the recent boom of adult colouring…
